Education, Training and Employment Pathway Group

The Wales Reducing Re-offending Education, Training and Employment Pathway Group is one of nine sub-groups that are taking forward the Joining Together in Wales strategy.

This group has been established to take forward the aims of the Education, Training and Employment pathway in Joining Together in Wales (new window), the joint NOMS Wales and Welsh Assembly Government strategy to reduce re-offending, which are

  • To enable all offenders in Wales to have access to education and skills programmes, both in custody and in the community, to assist them in securing and retaining employment.
  • • To increase the number of offenders who take up education and training opportunities in prison and community settings.
  • • To develop an integrated learning and skills service between prison and probation to bring together education and training for offenders whether they are in custody or in the community.
  • • To develop a  co-ordinated approach to engaging employers in offering opportunities for skill development and the employment of offenders.
  • • To coordinate activities at local level with all appropriate agencies working with young offenders, and to align ETE efforts for young offenders with each local authority’s strategic plans.
  • • To provide all young people supervised by the YOT with suitable and sustainable education, training and employment. There should be a special emphasis on those serving custodial sentences.

The pathway group reports to the NOMS Wales Reducing Re-offending Strategy Board.
