Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour Pathway Group

The Wales Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour Pathway Group is one of nine sub-groups that are taking forward the Joining Together in Wales strategy.

This group has been established to take forward the aims of the Attitudes, Thinking and Behaviour pathway in Joining Together in Wales (new window), the joint NOMS Wales and Welsh Assembly Government strategy to reduce re-offending, which are:

  • To ensure that all prisons and probation areas in Wales offer a full range of programmes designed to help offenders take responsibility for and change their offending behaviour
  • To establish joint planning and development between prison and probation services in order to ensure that a co-ordinated range of programmes is offered, in prison and in the community
  • To evaluate programmes regularly to establish their effectiveness in reducing reoffending
  • To ensure that the content of offending behaviour programmes is appropriate to the diverse range of offenders in Wales, and that  programmes are also available in Welsh for Welsh-speaking offenders
  • To introduce an offending behaviour programme in the prisons and in the community for the perpetrators of domestic abuse
  • To improve access to offending behaviour programmes in rural communities
  • To ensure that offenders with mental health disorders are referred to the relevant agencies and offered appropriate help within an overall improved framework of collaboration between agencies.

The pathway group reports to the NOMS Wales Reducing Re-offending Strategy Board.
