This is Jonathan’s first criminal justice-related position. He says: "I feel really privileged to have been given this opportunity to make a difference in such an important area of public policy.

"I am looking forward to meeting as many colleagues as I can before the end of the year, seeking advice on how best to tackle the challenges we face. I will be going round the country, learning from the frontline how we can deliver really high quality offender management to reduce re-offending and protect the public."

Jonathan joins NOMS at a period of great change and his responsibilities include performance management of the Probation Service.

He will also be working very closely with the prisons, taking forward end-to-end offender management, along with developing the performance-testing regime and probation trusts.

Jonathan joins NOMS from the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, where he led work on NHS delivery and reform and set up the Whitehall capability review programme. Before joining the Civil Service five years ago, Jonathan worked in local government, ending up as deputy chief executive of the London Borough of Islington.
