Academy for Justice Commissioning
The Academy for Justice Commissioning has been formed to further develop and enhance the knowledge, skills and relationships that are essential to the effective commissioning of offender services.
The aim is to create a centre of excellence for justice commissioning, thereby having a demonstrative impact on reducing crime, strengthening public safety and improving confidence in our justice system.
The Academy’s objectives are to:
• Strengthen the reputation of, and increase confidence in, justice commissioning
• Identify and share good practice in public service Commissioning
• Promote personal development amongst justice commissioners
• Become a central repository of commissioning knowledge and experience
• Provide an environment of peer support, encouragement and learning
• Sponsor and promote relevant research
• Seek to become the gateway for recognised awarding bodies of standards in justice commissioning and related subjects
• Strengthen links in justice commissioning, procurement, performance management and evaluation systems through partnership working with stakeholder bodies
These will be achieved through a number of mediums including publications, learning and development opportunities and improved communication between key stakeholders.
The Academy holds monthly evening seminars (new window) on relevant commissioning topics. These are held at various locations led by guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds.
Key to the success of the Academy will be building and enhancing relationships with stakeholders and listening to their needs in relation to the commissioning of offender services.
We encourage colleagues to become involved in the business of the Academy and to contact us with feedback, suggestions and to exchange information.

Ask a commissioner
The Academy provides an interactive forum through which colleagues can ask a commissioner questions. Your questions will be answered by a panel of commissioners from a range of backgrounds. The intention is to share best practice and generate further interest and discussion.
Please submit any questions you may have to our Panel. The answers will be published in the quarterly Academy Bulletins (new window).
